Picking up from the last post, here were some of the characteristics and attributes of a desirable BD hire that we came up with:

  • Industry experience (hotly contested)
  • Previous sales experience and track record of performance
  • Business acumen
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Competitive
  • Confident
  • High degree of discernment
  • Compelling presence

Of course, these are some of the most common characteristics. There were also a few that were pretty unique:

  • Intellectually curious - having a desire to learn about the customer's business
  • Networking skills - an inclination to reach out and meet others
  • "Restless" - always on the move and looking for opportunities

No doubt there are many more. What's your opinion on the most important characteristics of a new BD hire?
